My Work as a Pianist in Horsham and Crawley
My name is Eugene Portman and I have performed as a pianist in many of the venues around Horsham and Crawley. Furthermore, the events have been as varied as the venues. From weddings and corporate events to barbecues and Cockney themed sing-along parties. With venues ranging from luxury hotels and golf clubs such as South Lodge Hotel and Mannings Heath Golf Club to pubs and social clubs such as The Owl and St Edwards Social Club. The area does succeed in offering a pianist a great variety of work for pianists in this area.
The Music
Like most people who learn the piano, I originally learned classical music. I then listened to the great jazz pianists of the past such as Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, George Shearing and Monty Alexander. These pianists then became my my main influences before opening myself up to more modern influences from the pop and rock world. All this has helped me be a more versatile pianist as time has gone on.
My speciality is jazz and swing, but because so much of my work around Horsham consists of weddings, I have to be able to perform music of all styles. These styles of music include: pop, classical, latin, rock and even sing-along. My piano repertoire covers a whole spectrum of music including the old classics from Bach, Debussy to George Gershwin, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Neil Diamond and more.
Eugene’s Work as a Sing-along Pianist in Sussex
There has been a recent trend around the Horsham and Crawley area to book me as a sing-along pianist for Cockney themed events. This is something I really enjoy and I wish that I could do more of this kind of thing. For these events I dress in typical Cockney attire including Bowler hat, waistcoat, Albert watch chain, neckerchief etc. Furthermore, I provide and supply all the song sheets and a digital piano if needed. This just leaves you to provide some good enthusiastic singers for me to work with.
